What’s New for the 2019-2020 Ski Season

Breckenridge Ski Season is Here

It’s that time! We’re swapping bikes and hiking boots for skis and boards, doing our snow dances and looking forward to another magical Breckenridge winter. The first major snowfall hit Summit County on October 10, blanketing the peaks and setting us up for a solid kick-off to ski season.

Thanks to a new state-of-the-art automated snowmaking system and cool early season temperatures, our friends at Keystone fired up chairlifts on October 12. This marked Keystone’s earliest opening day in more than 20 years. Breckenridge Ski Resort is gearing up for opening day November 8.

Keystone plans on opening in early October each year and Breckenridge is extending its winter season through May. Together, the two resorts are offering one of the longest ski and snowboard seasons in the country.

Here’s what’s happening at Breckenridge this season:

Peak 8 Base Transformation

A lifetime of development is coming to fruition at Breckenridge’s Peak 8 base. The Grand Colorado on Peak 8 welcomes the completion of Building 3, tying the base area together with a heated escalator, skywalk and spacious patio. A new public ice-skating rink, ULLR Café, Escape Room, movie theater, indoor/outdoor aquatics center, and Breckenridge Ski Resorts ski and snowboard school, childcare facility, retail and rental shop, and lift ticket windows round out the cohesive Peak 8 experience.

Move seamlessly from childcare and ski school to the slopeside ticket window and gear rentals. The Colorado SuperChair and Rocky Mountain SuperChair are just steps away, meaning you’ll be soaring up and skiing down Peaks 7 and 8 within minutes. New 22,000-square-foot base facilities ensure quick and convenient mornings, giving you more time making memories on the slopes.

Breckenridge Traditions

Get in on the best of Breckenridge traditions with Opening Day on November 8, the Lighting of Breckenridge and Santa Race on December 7 and Ullr Fest the week of December 11.

Gather on Blue River Plaza the first weekend in December for the Lighting of Breckenridge & Race of the Santas where hundreds of red-suited revelers laugh, stroll and sprint down Main Street. Enjoy cocoa, cookies and visits with Santa himself as the big guy illuminates the town tree for the holiday season.

Hailing the Norse God of Snow, Ullr Fest celebrates 57 years, December 11–15, 2019. Grab your horned Viking hats and head to Breck’s craziest street party, parade and bonfire on December 12. Don’t miss the community talent show, ice skating party, Ullr Ice Plunge and comedy show!
